'Old Story' Games Have Better Success?

Written by igcompany on 07 July 2012.

You may have noticed that most of the games that are set in an older period are having more success than a game that is set nowadays for example or even than the one that are set in the future.

I am a fan of these games mainly because usually developers have a strong ability to create the game and the story with a perfect time setting. Rockstar is a more recent example with their L.A. Noire story. L.A. Noire is set in the 1940's Los Angeles and they had a specific department where their main mission was to gather as much information as they can about the 1940's Los Angeles (buildings, cars, people, design, fashion, everything). They finished by doing a great job and i may put L.A. Noire on my favourite games list. But as i said i am a fan of this kind of games. Some of you may like the games that are set somewhere in future (which are mainly sci-fi). These kind of games are also good to learn more history. L.A. Noire had a nice feature ... everytime you went beside a famous building in Los Angeles, a message would pop out in which you were finding out more about that building. Also i find it extremely interesting to see how people were living in those times, the clothes they were wearing, the cars they were driving and to make a comparison to nowadays and see how much the world evolved.

Games are the strongest way to represent and make the players to find out more about the representative times in history. Other way can be the movies. But in a game you can explore the city (L.A. Noire, Mafia I,II, The Godfather) and this will make you feel like you are living those times. Of course you must have a good setting, a good big display and a good game to play for a big period of time. First Person Shooters are using in their story, real happenings from the second World War. Now i'm thinking about a memorable mission from Medal of Honor Allied Assault that is actually picturing a real story from the World War II named 'Omaha Beach'. That mission was hard enough on the computer but you just can't imagine after playing that mission how hard it was for the soldiers in the real life and how many people lost their lifes in that battle. Omaha Beach also know as the D-Day is still comemmorated every year on June 6th.

Another good game is believed to be set in the 1950's and that is Mafia 3. So with that my friends i proved that games are a good way to learn history with fun.

I will keep playing 'old story' games and i can't wait for Mafia 3 and another Medal of Honor World War II (if is there going to be another one at least as good as Allied Assault) game to be released.
